I have an office network which sits behind a 7800DX router firmware 2.32d. I want to be able to connect to that network securely from around the world from an individual laptop runngin Windows 8.1 so it appears as though I am local to that network.
I have read and researched but the manual for the 7800DX and the actual setup pages are somewhat different and all the previous posts in the forum seem to be wanting to set up more complex situations.
This is what I have done so far:
- Established a VPN account with username and password with TUNNEL enabled and a connection type of REMOTE ACCESS
- Enabled an L2TP Server using "Default or IPSEC", an authentication type of CHAP. I have chosen a Peer IP address in the DHCP subnet of the BIllion's DHCP server but one that would not be assigned by the server. Tunnel authentication and everything else is turned off
- In the IPSEC section I have created a connection using my main WAN interface and IPv4. The remote secure gateway is blank as I have ticked ANONYMOUS. I have entered a PSK
From my Windows 8.1 laptop (on a different network), I have created a VPN connection.
- The address of the VPN connection is the WAN IP address of the router (pingable and reachable).
- Under security I have selected an L2TP over IPSEC protocol with the PSK entered under Advanced Settings
- Authenticating using CHAP
Any help in getting me connected would be hugely appreciated. I'm not lazy, I have tried to figure it out but I just can't.
