Access 7800DXL when in EWAN Bridge Mode

Hello,

I have my 7800DXL in Bridge Mode for the EWAN port.

I have a SSID set on the 7800 and can connect to the SSID and browse the internet and see other network devices via the 7800.

However, I cannot see the 7800 on the network.

How can I access the 7800 web gui when in EWAN bridge mode?

The 7800 is attached to a router via ethernet on the EWAN port that provides DHCP, the router that serves DHCP is 10.0.0.1

I do not see any logs of the router assigning an IP to the 7800.

Any ideas?

Thanks :)

This is because you have the 7800DXL setup for Ethernet Bridge mode, this Bridge mode is supposed to used with either a PC dialling in using PPPOE or another router dialling in with PPPOE (normally on the 7800 series bridge mode is only used with ADSL, and then a router connected to the 7800DXL can dial in using PPPOE)

Can explain your network topology further, and what you want to achieve.

Thanks for the reply.

I will try to explain my network topology!

BT Fibre Modem ----> ASUS RT-AC66U (IP 10.0.0.1)------> Billion 7800DXL (Via Ethernet to EWAN Port)

The ASUS is in the office 2 floors up from where the 7800 is located.

Basically wireless coverage on the lower floor is intermittent via the ASUS. But with the 7800 attached the wireless performs much better.

But I would like to be able to access the 7800 so I can change SSID now and again for security.

Is there another configuration I could implement to be able to access the 7800 whilst still being able to use the 7800 to access the internet and network wirelessly?

Thanks :)

Try changing the Ethernet type to 'IPOE' (obtain a IP address automatically should be ticked) so it works like a broadband router, with this setup your 7800DXL will now obtain a IP address from the Asus router,

Once a PC is connected to the 7800DXL you should be able to access it on the normal IP http://192.168.1.254.

Note if your Asus is currently running on 192.168.1.x you need to change the Billion LAN IP to 192.168.2.254 (otherwise you will get conflicts)

OK thanks, I will give that a try.

I think I will have to reset the 7800 to regain access to change this setting though.

Also, in this mode I should be able to access network devices directly shouldn't I?

Yes as long as they are connected to the 7800DXL, if they can't be connected directly to the 7800DXL you will have to use a different setup method, eg reset the device (7800DXL) set a IP address to the 7800DXL (outside the Asus's DHCP range, you can use this IP to contact the 7800DXL to make changes), turn off the DHCP server on the 7800DXL, and then restart any devices connected to the 7800DXL, with this setup the 7800DXL will work like a wireless AP/hub switch. (plug your Asus router to any of the four ports on the router) Now the Asus will do all the routing/DHCP etc.
