Billion 8800 AXL static route help

Post by aharnaman »

Hi all,

Im very new to this router and need to find out how the modem/router can replicate functionality I Had when I was using a separate TG582n.

So im on FFTC so my internet comes in via ppp1.1 pppoe_0_1_0.101 PPPoE on the internet side, then the router has a LAN ip of 192.168.0.x

On the TG582n the router could appear on different ranges such as 192.68.0.x but also 192.168.1.x (all on the same lan physical lan port) and whilst I have found interface grouping, which could allow me to create the 192.168.1.x range, the hardware runs over the same cables/switches. So my understanding is that inorder for the router to provide traffic on the 192.168.1.x range, without using interface grouping, I will need to add a static route under advanced setup > routing > static route.

Am I right in thinking that to get this working id need to add

Ip verison : ipv4

destination ip/prefix would be 192.168.1.0 (ie the lan range for 192.168.1.0 - 192.168.1.254)

Interface would be LAN/br0 (as im only routing traffic for machines on 192.168.1.x range outbound to ppp1.1 pppoe_0_1_0.101 PPPoE, and the 192.168.1.x range is connected on LAN0 on the back of the router via Ethernet cable)

Im not to sure about metric or gateway however ? would the gateway be the LAN ip of the AXL on the 192.168.1.x range ?

Please do feel free to ask any questions, worse case scenario I wil draw up a visio diagram :P

Cheers

Ok no takers maybe a rough vizio diag will help

So in the diag, pcs on range 192.168.0.x should be able to go via pri or secondary internet. This is working correctly, as the billion has a 192.168.0.x address on the lan port. Wireless devices do dhcp and dns via the billion, and are separated on the ir own group.

Problem I have is that I cant see how to give the billion a 192.168.1.x ip address on the lan, as grouping only allows a lan port in 1 group. So this is why I ask if I add a static route to the billion so that traffic on the 192.168.1.x range can go out via the billion on 192.168.0.x range. I appreciate the billion may not be able to do dhcp for the 192.168.1.x range and I can offload this to a network box with no issue, I just need the ability for the billion to work across both 192.168.0.x and 192.168.1.x ranges which my cheaper TG582n did.

Ok it was a silly question and I was looking in the wrong area. Turns out I just needed to setup an IP alias
