Hi there, sorry to introduce myself with a problem.

I bought an 8800nl a few weeks ago and ever since my error seconds have been through the roof, I have been lucky that talk talk have been very helpful in keeping my snr down for me they have now put me on the 9db profile and removed dlm but even on this profile I am averaging 1000 error seconds a day from just a few hours of general web browsing. The error seconds seem to come in large clusters for the main part but there will always be one or two more every time the stats refresh.

The connection seems fine to me I dont notice any problems, just all these error seconds.

I currently have my parents huawei hg523a in and so far 2 hours in it doesnt have a single error second. So it must either be a fault with the billion or the hg533 doesnt measure error seconds very accurately.

P.s I only have until the 16th to return it to amazon, although if its faulty I guess I would have longer?

Scratch this decided it must of been a faulty one and sent it back for a replacement, I would still be interested to hear any other ideas tho.

p.s now up to 14 hours without a single error second on the hg523, or so it says.

Can you remember the firmware version, I assume it is either 2.32d.dm12 or 2.32d.dh14

Try using a older DMT code firmware (attached)

Sorry no, new one is coming tomorrow (Wednesday). If that has the same problems I will give that a go.

If it's any help, my 8800 AXL has a Total ES of 327.

That was from roughly 2 hours of general web usage. I was getting UAS errors too approx 30 a day

p.s the hg 523a is still at 0 ES after 29 hours

Back again with a new 8800nl from amazon, still getting error seconds but a lot less than before.

Have so far had 163 es in 5 hours of use. Better but still a lot compared to the 0 I had over 48 hours with the talktalk freebie.

Things I have noticed: the snr profile is fixed at 9db, the talktalk router was was registering 10.4db the Billion is running at 8.4db both on stock settings. The attainable rate on the talktalk was around 6.2 meg, the attainable rate on the billion is 7 meg however in speedtests the talktalk was coming in at 5.8meg and the billion is coming in at 5.7 ???

It is running: 2.32d.dh14, shall I try the older firmware?

I really like the modem and want to keep it as I hope to upgrade to vdsl at some point, although the offered speed increase at the moment (11meg on medium) barely seems worth the extra cost.

In addition to my previous post.

I have just rolled it back to 2.32d.dm2.

The snr is now up to 9.2, the attainable rate is up to 7.5meg but the speedtest is coming in 5.5meg

So far only a couple of ES but its time for bed now, will see what tomorrow brings....

right so overnight I got 241 es and 14 ses, any more ideas?

You might want to leave the device connected to your line for a couple of days to see if things settle down.

(also other factors may have a effect eg different chipset, different DMT code etc)
