Android Device Causing Issues

I have recently purchased an NVIDIA Shield Tablet.
At home I am noticing that if the Shield is connected to the WiFi router, even when the Shield is idle (screen off, not in use, but powered on), my internet becomes very slow indeed.
I have various WiFi connected devices on both 5GHz and 2.4GHz and have never had connectivity issues until the Shield arrived.
I turned off each device and tested network connectivity and speed test with both my phone and laptop, added devices one by one. Speeds are fine with all devices connected except for the Shield, as soon as the Shield is connected, the internet comes to its knees.
I have checked the obvious such as IP conflicts and monitored bandwidth usage of each device on the network. No IP conflicts, and just to be sure I assigned a static IP to the Shield. No devices are using bandwidth which would cause such a dramatic drop in speeds and responsiveness.
The Shield is running Android Lollipop 5.0.1.
Anything I can do to sort this out?
Thanks
