Updating to 7800DXL 2.32e firmware

Post by phreder »

Instructions say set ‘Factory Default Settings’. After the update is it OK to load a saved config file or should one re-enter the details manually?

Thanks. That'll make things easier.

Just before I upgrade to this firmware can someone explain the 'known issue' to me please - 'USB storage/DLNA/ Printer server functions do not serve wireless clients associated with guess SSID'.

I assume that is supposed to read '... associated with guest SSID'. Presumably if you are connected via the guest WIFI then you can't get access to HDD/memory sticks, DLNA or printers that are connected to the router's USB.

Installed the update yesterday. Configured manually from scratch in the end. Some oddities with the DHCP leased table de-listing stations though they remain connected OK. Also one of my computers seems to have become isolated from the LAN though can still access the outside world. Maybe my error so I'll let things soak for a bit before I raise error reports.

<Later> How strange. 24 hours passes and all seems to be working without me changing anything. All my machines seeing each other via NFS & the DHCP leased table is fully populated for the moment.

Hi phreder, yes, you're right, I was just quoting the PDF file verbatim  .

Thanks for the explanation, it makes sense now. I've had this router for a couple of years (as a back-up) and had to use it the other day as my current router stopped working. I looked on the Billion site and they don't have this firmware at the moment - it's still 2.3d.dh2 - but then I found this site :).

From my experience on a 7800NXL having an ethernet cable in port 4 (EWAN/LAN) socket when you upgrade to 2.32e is to be avoided.

There is also a bug in the xDSL stats page that never shows the number of Up and Down Super Frames but it does record Super Frame Errors correctly. It can make you think that none of your Super Frames are being processed correctly. You can see the correct values if you telnet in and look at >adsl info --stats. Otherwise this F/w seems pretty good.
