I think there's a problem with UPNP in 2.32e

I noticed lately my XBox 360 has been taking ages to log in to my Xbox Live enabled profile, which causes startup to be upwards of 1 minute. I used the 360's built in network test utility to test the connection to XBox Live, and it came back telling me initially that my NAT was Moderate and this may cause problems. Repeated tests keep coming back the same; a NAT error.

My 360 connects via wireless to the 2.4GHz band incidentally. I googled for suggestions and kept seeing mention of UPNP, for various routers. I looked in my 7800DXL's settings and UPNP was of course enabled as it is by default I believe. System up time is 8 days thus far but rather than restart the router as many solutions suggested, I simply turned UPNP off, let the page reload, then turned it back on again. Tried the test again on the XBox and the problem was fixed.

I turned the XBox off and on again and the login is much faster, tested the connection again and it still showing no problems. So whatever happened it was UPNP on the 7800DXL that got stuck or something, I guess. But turning it off and on again fixed the problem, and I didn't even have to restart the router. As stated in the title this is on latest firmware 2.32e - I updated the router to it 8 days ago hence the up time of 8 days, and I must say I hadn't noticed a problem with my XBox being slow to login prior to that though then again I don't tend to use it that often.

It could be a one off, I don't have any problems with 7800DXL and the Xbox one, I will test my 360 once I have time to plug it back up :D

Could be. I'll keep an eye on it and see if it occurs again of course.

I think I saw something similar here:

though I haven't seen it recently

Yes I had seen that topic prior to posting, it was the only thing I could come up with when searching that seemed relevant. I have been keeping an eye on the XBox and it doesn't seem to have had an issue since however, my PS3 has. Unlike the XBox it hasn't been exhibiting any issues like being slow to log in (another quirk of the problem with the XBox 360 was my pinned games weren't showing any artwork though that obviously doesn't apply to the PS3).

I did however have some really dodgy performance and slowness from the PlayStation Store app so I did a connection test and found that it was stating UPNP was "Not available" though the NAT was listed as Type 2 (which I believe means it's moderate and shouldn't be a problem). I tested the connection on the XBox out of interest but it wasn't throwing up any issues like it was before.

Again, when I turned UPNP off in the 7800DXL's settings then back on again, without restarting it, upon doing the test again on the PS3 UPNP succeeded and it all went through OK. To say I'm puzzled by this behaviour is an understatement.

Edit: I've just noticed this in the system log:

Everything before and after that instance are ACK/OFFER entries. I note that apparently occurred last night as you can see (the date is correct) but as I say, nothing since. It's just the fact it mentions UPNP on the first line that has me raising my eyebrow.

When you upgraded to 2.32e did you perform a factory reset and manually reconfigure the device??

I might perform some tests when I get home, (PS3 is broken, so I can't test with that) but I can test with my xbox one

Yes I did do a factory reset, actually a hard reset by pressing the button on the back of the device rather than via the gui.

Just to say it's done it again just now, I turned my PS3 on a few minutes ago and went to the store, and it took ages to load again, so I looked at the System log on the router first before I did a connection test, and this was in the log; happened pretty much the same time I turned the PS3 on I think;

Unless the XBox 360 problem I had was a one-off and just a coincidence?

Ok submitted to the our engineers, it seems the issue is isolated to the PS3, as the xbox 360 is working normally (my xbox one is also fine, I'm using the 7800DXL also)

I have attached a older firmware, can you give that ago and see if the UPNP crashes, at least I can advise our engineers on what firmware is fine so they can compare the code

Sorry I didn't get back sooner, I've been having a lot of trouble with my internet lately, I need a new modem (as you saw from my other thread) and it's kind of distracted me from the leisures of playing games. I'll put that firmware on the router asap and see if I can spot any problems. Cheers!

Well I've been using 2.32d on the router now for a few days and the problem hasn't shown up as of yet. I had it on the router before I updated 2.32e of course and never noticed any problems with it then so would think the problem is isolated to the new firmware.

By the way, totally OT but I see you've upgraded the forums. Just fyi, none of the boards are visible unless you're logged in (unless that was deliberate).
