Just bought a 7800 NXL using ADSL connection. Tried to port forward FTP for my Synology NAS
Configuration --> Virtual servers --> add FTP port 21.
A pop-up says "since port 21 is used, FTP server port will be moved to 2121"
Under WAN --> Wan service --> ATM interface PPOE --> Edit --> Firewall disabled.
Did the above but failed to see port 21 forwarded at canyouseeme.org. Any help?
I also tried to create a statip IP address for my laptop but still didnt work.
Many thanks.
Unable to port forward FTP 21

Normally the firewall should be enabled, and when adding a Virtual server rule, you need to make sure the correct WAN interface is set, eg PPPOE, (if your main connection is ATM >> PPPOE)

TPG. By the way I'm from Melbourne.
I read that the norm is to just add a virtual server rule. But it doesnt work for me, regardless if I enable or disable the WAN firewall.

Firewall needs to be on, did you select the correct WAN interface on the virtual server pagejsppan wrote:TPG. By the way I'm from Melbourne.

Screen shot example is attached, also check the gateway on your FTP server, to ensure it points to the routers IP address

Re: Unable to port forward FTP 21
Thanks for the answer.
My WAN interface is PPOE. Is this ok?
Do I need be on a static IP for portwarding, or can I be using dynamic IP?
I'm using 7800NXL.
I'm not sure how to check the gateway of my FTP. I'm only using canyouseeme.org to check if my FTP port is opened.

The WAN interface should be fine, as long as you have selected the correct one when setting up the Virtual server rule.jsppan wrote:Thanks for the answer.

DHCP or static should work the same
You need to check the IP address settings on your FTP to ensure the 'Default Gateway' is set to the routers IP.
Also make sure you have the latest 2.32e firmware (Not sure about AU firmware, as we don't use it)

Re: Unable to port forward FTP 21
Everything looks fine, so you have scanned for ports 21 and its still not open??
For a test have you tried to install VNC (I use Tight VNC freeware), and open ports 5800~5900 and see if the ports open for that (the software needs to be running when performing a port scan)

Re: Unable to port forward FTP 21
So I need to:-
1. Download and install VNC
2. Open ports 5800 - 5900 using the virtual server
3. Then do the port scan at canyouseeme.org?
Is that what you mean?
