7800DXL - Keep losing wireless connection

Hi,
I am on BT Infinity and have a connection as follows:
Phone line > Hawai HG 612 > Billion 7800DXL
This arrangement has worked very well up to a few weeks ago, then I suddenly began to notice that whilst everything worked ok for most of the day, I would occasionally lose the wireless connection, mostly in the evening for some odd reason. I don't usually work with a wired connection, as I normally work away from where the actual line comes into my home, so a wireless connection is essential.
I thought it might need a firmware upgrade, so I checked, and yes there was a recent upgrade which I downloaded and installed. It has not solved the issue.
As an initial experiment I connected an Ethernet cable from my laptop into the 7800DXL and immediately there was a connection to the Internet.
As another experiment I disconnected the Hawai / 7800DXL and put back my BT Hub 5. Lo and verily behold everything works fine, with a good wireless connection whichever room I happen to be in. So does anyone have an idea as to what the issue might be that is preventing the Hawai / 7800DXL combination working consistently, providing me with a reliable wireless signal?
I await any response with great interest, as this is quite frustrating.
Regards,
OldTimer
