BiPAC 7800NXL Printer Server problem

Hello,

I have had a BiPAC 7800NXL on the 2.32e firmware for a while. I also have an HP DeskJet 5940 USB (PCL 3E) printer that works well when connected directly to my Windows 10 Desktop. Today I tried to connect the printer to the router with no success. The sequence:

- Connected printer, enabled On-board Print Server, set name to "HP Deskjet 5940"; apparently a mistake to use spaces, but I got no error message. When clicking Apply, the router froze.

- Restarted router, all was reported enabled on the Print Server. Read manual, deleted spaces (so now "HPDeskjet5940"), restarted router; all looks good on the Print Server page.

- Went to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners > Add printers & scanners > The printer that I want isn't listed > Select a shared printer by name. Added http://192.168.1.254:631/printers/HPDeskjet5940; it comes up with an error "Windows could not connect to the printer". I checked it's on and plugged into the USB port of the router.

- I ran Angry IP Scanner, it can find nothing on 192.168.1.254

- I ran telnet 192.168.1.254 631 got nothing.

The PC is connected directly onto the router LAN port.

Help! :D

Cheers,

AEKostas

Thanks. My report above follows exactly (well, the Windows 10 counterparts of) the guide you attached and never reaches the step that corresponds to the figure on step 6.

Thanks. But I cannot see it differing by much.

What would really help is ideas for tests. E.g., for people that have got it to work, can they connect to the IP address with a browser, or with telnet? Do they see the printer appearing anywhere on the router management pages? How can I detect the IP address of the printer?

That kind of thing. :)

The printer does not have a IP address, it runs off the printer server within the router (so uses the routers IP address)

I have just tested with my windows 10 machine and it works, and allows me to select the printer

See attached screen shot, also attached is the windows 8 guide I wrote and followed (it should be the same setup guide for windows 10)

If your router is on a different IP address you should use http://routersIPaddress:631/printers/printername (the printer name added to print server section within the router)

There is no indication within the web gui if the printer is registered other then looking at the system log once the printer is plugged into the USB port on the router

This solved the problem. My router lives on a different IP address.

Many thanks!!!
