7800DXL on sky

Post by dites1 »

Hi all

As title says I've just purchased the above router to use with my Sky broadband. Well that was the plan  but
no matter what I try to put in for settings I'm never getting connected?? There doesnt seem to be a MER option in setup even
though this router is MER compatible?
I have got my username & password off my sky router and applied them.
Thanks for looking

Have you tried the following settings shown on the attached screen cap?? (this is just a example for SKY ADSL MER)
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Hi
Thanks for replying and your help. I followed your screenshot with no luck to begin with but
know without doing anything else as far as I know it seems to have jumped into life and working fine :-)
My homeplugs have now decided to stop working though with an amber light on corresponding lan port on router,
any ideas the cause of this??
Many thanks

Amber light indicates a 100mbps connection, what homeplugs are you using?? (brand/model)

Yep and even though router was indicating a connection I couldnt get anything from homeplugs. They were comtrend 9020 models, I had 4 working perfectly through out the hose before changing router.
I tried all the usual resetting etc to no avail. Anyway I had already 2 new billion plugs sitting so tried them and worked straight of no problem?
Guess it'll just have to be ebay for the comtrends and have ordered 2 more billions.
Thanks again for your help

7800DX Setup for sky fibre

Post by TMilles »

Hi All,

I upgraded from a 7800N to the new 7800DX this week. Previously I had my 7800N working with the BT openreach modem as I have Sky fibre broadband. However, the 7800DX setup process for the EWAN port and Skyfibre is quite different from the setup process for the 7800N and the supplied operating instructions for the 7800DX didn't shed any light on how to set it up for Sky MER. So I contacted the excellent Billion technical support who promptly came back with the following instructions:

1. Reset the router to factory default settings
2. Click on 'Configuration >> WAN >> WAN service'
3. Remove the 'pppoa0' interface which is used for ADSL
4. Click on the 'Add' button
5. Change the 'WAN' port to 'Ethernet'
6. Change the 'Type' to 'IP over Ethernet'
7. In the 'Option 61 Client ID' enter your skyusername and password with | in between the username and password, just like on the 7800N
8. Click on 'Next'
9. Under 'Available Routed WAN Interfaces' you will see your new 'ipoe' connection, select it and click on the arrow pointing left (so this 'ipoe' connection should now be listed under 'Selected Default Gateway Interfaces'
10. Then click on 'Next' and that should be it.

I can confirm this set up process works for Sky Fibre, but you need to give your 7800DX approx 10 minutes to pickup the internet connection once you have followed the set up instructions as it seems to take more time for the internet connection to light up on the router than you expect. I had the same delay to setup working on the 7800N and suspect it is something to do with the way SKY MER works. Its early days but I'm so far very pleased I have upgraded to the my new 7800DX, which has significant benefits over the 7800N. I'm pleased to say that my new Sky Hub is also consigned to the shelf which is the only thing it is good for and many thanks for your help Billion Technical support! :D

Best regards,

Tom.

The screen shot above is only for customers on SKY ADSL MER, (most Sky ADSL users are reverted to PPPOA now anyway)

Here are the steps for a fibre setup with the 7800DXL/DX/VDOX/X

1. Reset the unit back to factory default settings
2. Click on 'Configuration >> WAN >> WAN service'
3. Remove the 'pppoa0' interface which is used for ADSL
4. Click on the 'Add' button
5. Change the 'WAN' port to 'Ethernet'
6. Change the 'Type' to 'IP over Ethernet'

Guys, I am thinking of replacing the sr102 as its frequently disconnecting now bizarrely at night and openreach have checked line etc and all seem fine. lots of people are getting this post recent firmware upgrade so suspect may be the router. its also not great with wifi so my question is does anyone have a recommendation as to which billion to buy and are there any issues with this substituted for the sr102 in terms of when it goes down and reconnects etc, as really looking for a trouble free existence as much as possible ;-) I get and am ok with the password stuff, help please?
