2 x screwed Macbook Pros - is this our new Billion 8800NL R2

Newbie here. Can anyone steer me in the right direction on the forum or help if this may be a known issue please?

Two days ago after our Netgear gave up the ghost we installed a Billion 8800NL R2 on ADSL+

Apart from one Windows pc we are 'Appled up', one iMac desktop, 2 x iPhone 6, 2 x iPad Mini and 2 x Macbook Pro. We also have Sky HD and Firestick

All is ok apart from this issue: One of the Macbook Pro 5.5 from 2008 wouldn't get on wi-fi. And now when connected to the router - even by ethernet cable it soon freezes by content 'beach balling'. That was Thursday. Took to work and works fine on work ethernet but not work wi-fi. Seems Airport is screwed now.

Strangely, my daughter who works in the west country (we're in SE) came home last night for the week-end and within a few mins, the same problems manifest. Her Macbook Pro, like mine is a 2008 5.5 2Gb and today, it's useless. Won't process by wi-fi or wired from the 8800.

I'm thinking two things. One, both machines, bought at the same time have reached a 8 year 'shelf life' (and the OS isn't supported anymore - no updates) or those oldies aren't 'compatible' with the Billion somehow?

A new Macbook Pro, this one which is my work one and the one on which I'm typing this seems ok?

Any help or re-direct to older posts on same subject appreciated folks.

Tom

I haven't seen this issue before, its strange that two apple macs are experiencing the issue, where as newer macs are not.

With a wired connection, what IP address are you getting from the router?

Are you able to access the router on http://192.168.1.254 when connected with the troublesome mac via Ethernet??

Have you tried to ping 'bbc.co.uk' within 'terminal' once connected to the router (open terminal and type 'ping bbc.co.uk' and press enter and look for replies)

Also here is a third party link that might help your 'beach balling'
