QoS - How to stop video downloads impacting gaming??

Hi, hope someone can help me with this.
I enjoy gaming, particularly CSS on Steam, but frequently my RTT goes from 40ms to over 100ms and I get kicked. I know what's doing it, the kids have started uploading/downloading videos to Facebook or they are watching Netflix.
One of the key reasons for me buying the 7800DXL was because I read I could ring-fence the necessary Steam bandwidth/ping and let the kids have the rest. But.......
....I haven't a clue how to set it up and don't have enough knowledge to make sense of the manual, can anyone help, I'm sure I'm not the only one to be in this position
Thanks
Mid

Are you using ADSL or FTTC??

Try following the attached screen capture.
The following rule is for you gaming PC, I would suggest you either set a static IP to your gaming machine, or add the MAC address to fixed host option.(Static IP Lease List)
The internal IP address will be your gamming machine, then setup another rule for Downstream (WAN to LAN) with the same info as shown in the screen shot.
So you should have 2 rules, one for upload and the other for download.

Hi, thanks for the information. I managed to set up the LAN to WAN no problem, although not tested yet, but the WAN to LAN is slightly different. The rate type defaults to Limited(Maximum) and I am unable to add a Priority (greyed out) and if I try to save it asks for a Ratio?
Thanks

With this you will have to enter your kids IP range eg 192.168.1.201 ~ 192.168.1.204 (setup a fixed IP's using the MAC address 'Static IP Lease List') and then enter the ratio of your downstream you want the kids to get, to ensure there is enough bandwidth for your gamming.
The other way is to enter the IP address of your gaming machine, but I don't think you want to limit the downstream for this device eg 80-90%

Hi, thanks for the reply.
I have set up a rule as suggested on the home cinema connection to stop Netflix taking the full bandwidth - it works fine with just 15% of my connection which usually runs around 4-6Mbs.
However, I don't really want to restrict the kids access unless I actually need the bandwidth during a game.
Is there a way of setting up WAN to LAN to give my gaming PC priority over other connections only when it's needed?
Thanks

I'm also interested in this. A reply would be much appreciated!

At the moment the only option for limiting the downstream is setting the 'Rate Type' to 'Limited' and entering a 'Ratio' eg 10%
